We love buying from and supporting creators of handmade items from local makers. Attending craft shows has been a family activity that we love to participate in to meet and buy from many local makers for many years!
The Makers Catalogue is an extension of those events to develop a network designed to connect buyers to local crafters, makers, bakers, designers, and artists! Listing only individuals and companies producing locally-made handmade items that can now be found more easily all year round!
WHY A WEBSITE AND NOT CRAFT SHOWS?
We love craft shows and markets and they are a great way to connect with local makers in-person but they may not always the best place to buy.
- It can be hard to find a company or individual that makes a particular item.
- They only happen at certain times and places.
- You have to often pay entrance fees simply to browse makers’ items – and this money does not go to the makers.
- Makers often have to pay significant fees for a table or space to be able to sell their items and only for a few days. This restricts who can afford to attend and you may not find the best maker for what you are looking for.
- Shows only have limited space so there are only so many companies and items you can view at any given show.
- Makers can only show a small sample of what they make.
- Although most local makers produce amazing products, you cannot be certain of the quality you are receiving.
